Leonel No. 511

Some people meditate; I smoke cigars..

Company History:

Leonel Cigars was established in 2010 by Norbert and Daniel Höldke, a father-son team who shared a passion for cigars and a family tobacco business. They started out traveling to tobacco farms in Estelí, Nicaragua, and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where they studied the craft of cigar-making.

They purchased their own tobaccos and began crafting their initial blends in a Nicaraguan factory, creating a brand that melds old-world tradition with new-world, boutique style.

Today, Leonel Cigars is well-known for its small-batch, limited releases and has gained a loyal following throughout Europe. The brand is now represented in more than 150 of Germany’s finest cigar retailers and has since expanded to numerous other nations throughout Europe, establishing itself as a premium boutique cigar brand with international recognition.

Cigar History: The Leonel No. 511

  • The Leonel No. 511, made in Estelí, Nicaragua, is a reflection of the Höldkes’ commitment to perfection, combining five different Nicaraguan filler tobaccos for a balanced and changing flavor profile, while its name pays tribute to the painstaking 5-1-1 tobacco blend and the brand’s steadfast adherence to quality and innovation.

Flavors and Tasting Notes

Beginning

  • The cold draw reveals hints of cedar wood, a touch of grass, and a natural sweetness. Once I lit the cigar, the first few puffs introduce a light, creamy draw with notes of toast, popcorn, and leather, complemented by a subtle nuttiness.

Middle

  • The midpoint becomes sweet and creamy, with a perfect balanced aroma. A bit of spiciness is apparent, along with subtle grassy undertones, which add nice depth without overwhelming the smooth, creamy center.

End

  • The flavours are even deeper in my opinion into the last third. Woody notes are dominant, with a sweet creaminess and subtle lingering spiciness. The cigar is still smooth and balanced and never gets bitter or harsh.

Construction and Smoke

  • The build and construction is wonderful, the Leonel no. 511 boasts a perfect even burn with solid ash. Medium- in strength, this cigar is well tailored for a broad range of smokers who will enjoy it as much as I did.

Final Thoughts

The Leonel No. 511 is another great cigar created by the Höldke family. It had great construction and flavour consistency. Wonderful notes of cedar wood, grass, and creamy sweetness to it. I really loved the toasty and popcorn flavours as well. It’s an exceptionally well-made cigar, great for anyone seeking a smooth, creamy, and well-balanced smoke. I will definitely be smoking this cigar in the years to come.
